A large 56-foot (17-meter) gallery under a 5.5-foot (1.7-meter) cornice runs along the east and south facades of the house. On the south side is a 20 by 33 feet patio on two levels, the lowest overlooking the pool. The highest part of the patio sits at the same height as the porch and hosts a 12-by-12 gazebo with cornices that protrude two feet.
The planning of the house has been designed to make the most of the sunlight. Thanks to the 5.5-foot cornices, the afternoon summer sun does not penetrate directly into the dining room and main living area. In winter, it's the opposite, with the sun's rays warming the house from the first hours.
Even from the inside, you can enjoy the countryside to the fullest. No matter where you are, you always have a view of the forest and the surrounding greenery thanks to the 17 windows.
The house is equipped with a forced-air electric furnace coupled with an air exchanger.
A wood-burning stove with built-in fan, located in the garage, provides additional heating capable of keeping the whole house warm in the event of a power failure.
In the event of a power outage, some of the lighting in the house, as well as the refrigerator, microwave, water supply system, and power outlets in the upstairs living room (including telephone and internet), are connected to a secondary electrical system that can be powered by a generator. The connection to this system is located in the shed.
Several trails already crisscross the property, including one that runs along the banks of the Gatineau River. You can go walking, snowshoeing or mountain biking.
The area is great for wildlife viewing and if you keep a camera handy, you will often have the opportunity to photograph beautiful specimens.
A pair of bald eagles often cruise above the house but will require a good telephoto lens to capture them.
You'll also occasionally see red-headed woodpeckers, hawks, blue jays, partridges, raccoons, hares, wild turkeys, deer and, if you're lucky, a beautiful crested owl.
And to cool off on hot summer days, all you have to do is jump into the pool.
